help with letter of resignation
i work in a school, and just got told that they don't have a position for me next school year. Its my tenure year, if they give me tenure they can't ever fire me, so i think its mainly an issue where they don't want to give more people tenure. my principal suggested that i write a letter of resignation, rather than having him write in my report that they didn't want to hire me back. makes sense that that will look better when i look for other jobs. so... what should i include, how should i word it?

Re: help with letter of resignation
I'm so sorry!
Letters of resignation should be extremely short and to the point. Do not include any unnecessary information. It should be on school letterhead if possible. If not, put it on personal letterhead.
Dear __________,
Effective [Date], I am resigning from my position as [Position] at [School].
Sincerely, [Name]
OR
Dear ___________,
I am writing to notify you of my resignation from my position as [Position] at [School]. My last day will be ________.
Sincerely, [Name]
ETA -- That's all you need to say and you really shouldn't say anything else.

It is always better to keep what you say to a minimum.

Re: help with letter of resignation
Is that really the best thing to do? I don't know about w/ teaching but I know when I worked for a financial firm that one way they'd package you out- or you'd at least be eligible for unemployment until you found another job... I know when I moved the 'rule' was if you moved more than 50 miles from where you currently lived/your job that they were supposed to help you find a job closer and relocate you to that branch. They have a branch 15 mins from where I live but had no openings. They told me I had to send a letter of resignation if I was moving--- I later found out that I shouldn't have done that- although in my resignation later I stated .... because I have relocated 2+ hours from this location and have had no success finding a job within our company near there... or something like that (more professionally stated though). I would check the rules...

i'm not sure... i've never been through this before. i did e-mail the teacher's union rep and asked her what they recommend... i'll go from there.
