would you take a job that didn't offer health insurance, even if the $$ was really good?

If your DH could cover you...why not?

i'm paranoid...always playing what if games....in this case 'what if DH ends up in a position that doesn't have insurance.'

Re: Health Insurance?

Probably not, because DH is self-employed and doesn't have insurance.

However, it still is about $900.00 a month pre-taxed for insurance for the two of us anyways ;).

Right now, we are paying COBRA since I recently left my job, and that's a good $1300.00 a month. This is a sore-spot for me, especially because I WORK in healthcare Chat Icon .

Re: Health Insurance?

ONLY if I could go under or was already covered under my DH's plan.

If I was not married with coverage from my DH, i would not take the job.

No matter how good the money is, any unexpected illness or accident could cost you thousands if you're not covered. you just never know....

Re: Health Insurance?

When DW was working, she had the opportunity to take their insurance, but went under mine, since it was cheaper to have her as "spouse" under mine, then take her own. Plus, mine was better anyway.

Well, he'll have to make that choice not to!Chat Icon If one person carries the benefits that is their responsibility unless it is discussed before and you come to an agreement. IMO anywayChat Icon

absolutely!! I would just go on DH's coverage.

but if that was not an option, I would still take the job if the $$ was really good. you can always buy your own policy.

Re: Health Insurance?

only if I could go on DH's policy. if not, I would have to really think about it..individual health insurance policies are typically not as good as group coverages. Lower limits..etc..

It would make me nervous to not have the option of either insurance. Also, DH and I have each other on our dental plans for coordination of coverage because dental insurance limits are so crappy to begin with.

You can never have enough coverage!!

Re: Health Insurance?

I voted mabye, it would depend on a few things.

I get really good coverage from my job, so I would have to look into what DH's company would cover and see if it would be worth it.

I would also depend HOW much more money I would be making.

My DH has pretty stinky HI (a lot of out of pocket expenses), so I said "no". If he had better insurance, I would definitely take the job and go on his insurance.

My DH has health insurance through work, but uses my policy. It's actually cheaper to both be on one policy (plus my policy is better than the one his company offers). HOWEVER, if I ever lost my job, we could both be covered by his health insurance.

If your DH has a stable job, then I'd probably consider a job with good money, but no health benefits. If you were a SAHM, you'd have the same risks, for example.

same here... and it's a gov't job so he's also pretty much guaranteed to always have that job.

ETA: right now we both have our insurance through my job b/c it's free, but if we had to we could switch to his job, it's not very expensive.

Re: Health Insurance?

If the money is really good and makes up for it then I would take the job and buy health insurance. I would want to know why the employer does not offer it, though. That could tell me something about the company. I am self employed and paid for my health insurance from 2001 until I was married in 2005. You have to be prepared for a big increase each year. I could never rely on a previous year's rate to remain in effect.
