So we've discussed bad customers in restaurants...

but have we discussed bad wait staff?

I just had the worst waitress ever. She came over and took our order, but was basically staring out the window and not really acknowledging us. She just took the menus without a word. No greeting, nothing. Even after DH and I both said "hi." Then she brought over drinks. They were AWFUL. They were so flat and overly sweet. We called her several times when she was at the table next to us and even turned her head and looked at DH, and completely ignored him and walked away. Finally he said "EXCUSE ME, MISS?" so loud that she couldn't ignore us. We let her know, nicely, that the drinks were no good and asked her if we could have new ones. She grunted and just plopped the new drinks on the table, we said thank you and she just walked away. She then brought the food over. Again, we said thank you and she said nothing.

Then its time for the bill, oh, and tip time, and then she was sunshine and roses. How was this soda? This one looks a little fizzy-er! Thank you and have a great day.

Of course we still tipped her 20%, but it was just annoying and made our meal unpleasant.

Anyone else have this experience?

You are better than me, I would have NOT tipped her 20%...why did you? I thought a tip was for good service. I am just curious why you said "of course we still tipped her 20%)

she would be lucky if she got a dollar from me.

omg yes!!!

i was a waitress---so i try and give as much slack for them as i can, but i had a waitress last nite that made me so annoyed. she totally forgot to bring us stuff----she seemed like she was being bothered by having another table. and when she dropped the check, she disappeared for a good TWENTY MINUTES!! i'm sure she was in the back doing her side work---but it really ticked me off!

Because I'm a sucker?

I meant the "of course" in a "how stupid am I?" way. I just can't bring myself to not do it, because I can't imagine how hard these people work. But she didn't deserve it and I knew it, but I just couldn't tip (or not tip her) the way she deserved.

I meant the "of course" in a "how stupid am I?" way. I just can't bring myself to not do it, because I can't imagine how hard these people work. But she didn't deserve it and I knew it, but I just couldn't tip (or not tip her) the way she deserved.

It's annoying when they forget stuff but I can deal with that. When they are rude though forget it.

Nothing bothers me more than when they take your order without writing ANYTHING down like they are the best servers in the world that they are "too good" for writing it down... And normally, that would be fine b/c if they can remember ALL of that - WOW, KUDOS! But I have *NEVER* had a person take my order w/o writing it down and get it correctly... EVER. So, that means that they need to be writing it down which is fine - why is this a test of how great your memory is?? It's like I get the anxiety of knowing everything is going to come out wrong when they are just standing there nodding at my order with their hands folded.

I don't know why this drives me crazy - I go OUT of my way to be EXTRA nice to servers - I used to serve myself for a long time but it just bothers me that they can't do something so simple as write it down. It doesn't make you a better server to remember it.

Yeah but the rudeness is just inexcusable - that would really bother me - getting something wrong (if it was written down lol) and just making small mistakes is fine - i mean, i'm pretty understanding b/c no one is perfect but being rude is uncalled for.
