they want the US out of there - I get it. but WHY are they killing their OWN people?! day in and day out you hear about Iraqi citizens getting killed by arab terrorists.
I really do not understand this madness!

they don't always target the police, they usually go to crowded markets or other crowded areas where they can kill as many as possible. it's so senseless and horrible. i just don't understand!!!!!!!

Re: Can someone please explain why terrorists are targeting Iraqis?
There are two different sects of Muslims: Shi'ia, whose leaders are directly descended from Mohammed's heirs and Sunnis, whose leaders are religious people, but not in Mohammed's bloodline. There is a big rift between these two in Iraq. Sunni's have the majority and the Shi'ia feel that they are not represented.
Throw in the ethnic Kurds from the north and you have another group who is not happy not having control.
That's why the thought is if the US pulls out, there will be a Civil War in Iraq. The Shi'ia took over in Iran in 1979 and have not been US-friendly, so the US fear is that Shi'ia would win in Iraq and we would have another enemy in the Middle East.
