Crib -- Convertible or not? (WITH POLL)

I'm having a hard time deciding between a regular crib and a convertible crib. Since I'm planning on having another child, my mom thought I should just buy a regular crib that I can use for the next baby, and then buy a toddler bed when necessary.

I was leaning toward convertible crib because I didn't think it mattered much since I'd have to buy something new anyway when I had another baby (i.e., either a new convertible crib or a toddler bed). Plus the convertible crib would match the other furniture that the first child can use when its older.

What factors did you consider when making your decision?

TIA

I was battling with this same decision and decided to go with the convertible bed.

Bottom line, I won't need a crib forever and I would rather have something that is useful in the long run rather than something that I will throw out / sell / give away at some point. If I need a toddler bed AND a crib, then I will buy a twin bed and keep the convertible crib until that baby is old enough to sleep in a twin bed too.

Either way, I would rather have furniture that can be converted rather than something I would need to dispose of.

I bought a convertible crib because I wanted the bed to match the rest of his furniture.

I answered regular crib, but I got a convertible crib that converts to a full size bed rather than a toddler bed.

I figured I would use the crib for this baby and the next, get them each twin beds when they ready and then use the convertible to full in the guest room.

well, we have a special situation.... space constraints!

this is our first baby, and hopefully, we'll be able to have another in a few years.

right now, we're in a 1 BR apartment. The crib will be in our bedroom. we NEED a convertible toddler bed, becuase a full sized bed wouldn't fit Chat Icon

we hopefully will move out by that point, but just in case...... convertible it is!

I bought a regular crib. I never planned on using it as anything other than a crib or converting into anything. When I got pregnanct with #2, DC#1 got a brand new teen bedroom set, for his new room, now that I'm preggo with #3, this baby will now use the same crib that DC#1 and #2 used and DC #2 will get a new teen bedroom set.

we are going with the convertible crib. after going to the stores and looking at the lower priced cribs and the lil more expensive convertible sets, it just makes more sense to us to go with a good quality convertible set. that way we can get more use out of it for a longer time, the quality of the set looked more sturdy and that it would last longer than some of the ones we looked at for less, and plus the furniture would all match later on. we wouldnt have to go out in a few years and buy all new furniture again. it was more than we orginally planned on spending, but it seems like a more wiser investment for us, plus i love the look of the furniture set!

We are going Convertible - I would like to have something that will grow with the baby through the years.

Although we are planning on having a second child we figured convertible was the way to go. We can convert to a Toddler bed and then back to a crib when nec and again back to Toddler then Full when the time comes.

Ultimately we would need the conversion anyway. So it makes more sense to get the whole thing than not.

For #1 DS I bought a convertible crib that I really liked, when i was pregnant with #2 I couldnt decide what to get, I didnt want to re-use the crib and not have it match the rest of the furniture. Then we found it we were having a girl so we bought all new white furniture. If you have the space i would buy the convertible, we just changed my sons into a full bed and it looks great.

We went with a convertible crib that converts to a toddler bed/day bed/full bed. We liked the idea of keeping the furniture over time and not having to buy anything new- it saves us money!

I think I'm leaning towards a convertible one, and only b/c I would like all the furniture to match.

We decided on a convertible crib because we would rather have something that converts into a full sized bed down the road instead of a crib that may or may not get used again and will end up being stored in the garage or junked. Plus I like the fact that the bed will match the rest of the furniture.

Re: Crib -- Convertible or not? (WITH POLL)

We went with convertible for many reasons.
--The traditional ones didnt seem as sturdy (could just be store displays)
--like the look of the convertible better
-- More to choose from

We plan on having 2 kids, but my thought is that DS will stay in this crib until he needs a big boy bed or DC#2 arrive. Then DC #2 will get hte crib and grow into it as a full bed as well. And Christopher will get new furniture when needed.

I went with regular. I knew I'd need the crib for when we had a second. I figured I'd just get a bed when I needed to.
