NYC TEACHERS!!!

I was wondering how the strike affected in your school and commute? I work in queens so I have to say there was surprisingly no traffic. My principal was really laid back. She let us stroll in at 9- 9:20. We basically got to wait around for the kids. She didn't make us do lunch duty or anything like that. I was talking to my friend who works in another school and her principal had the teachers come in at 8:20 and she had meetings.

Re: NYC TEACHERS!!!

WE've been loving it but there are so many things we haven't gotten to. We're all there at 8 (which is late for a few of us) and whether we have had no kids or 3 kids, we all feel that we have been able to get things done in our rooms. When my kids come in though, it's 10:25 and we have lunch at 10:50, so they copy their homework and go to lunch. Yesterday, I even had a prep after lunch, so I saw them for 2 hours! But I wasn't able to do the holiday things I wanted to do, which stinks.

I don't really have much of a commute, so that wasn't affected. I work in a high school, and about half the kids were out in all my classes on Tuesday. Yesterday a little more showed up, but not that many. Our periods were reduced to a half hour each because of the delayed opening. We also were allowed to come in an hour later than we normally do.

We did- and since I am a part time coach and a part time teacher with one class a day, I didn't even TEACH on Wednesday! We started with period 3.

I live an hour away from my school and didn't want to chance things so I got there regular time but it was nice to be able to relax and catch up. Yesterday I did get stuck for an hour by the Henry Hudson HOV checkpoint. But being in the car beat walking to work in this cold.

But it's still the last day and that also means we can still relax a bit and not be so on edge! We're cleaning the room and having a little soiree!
