The "Yes" Syndrome...

I know so many women who say yes to things even when they don't want to. Myself personally I have no problems saying no when I can't or don't want to do something. I either say no or "I'll think about it." Do you always say yes or have no problem saying no?

Re: The "Yes" Syndrome...

My sister always says yes and it drives me up the wall because it makes her miserable sometimes. I, on the other hand, have no problem saying no.

I think it depends on what it is. I can say no, but I think I can be too accommodating at times.

I would have to say that it depends on what it is. I have a hard time saying no at work - for obvious reasons Chat Icon

but other times, if I don't want to do something, I say no.

Ditto this. I tend to stretch myself a bit thin at times.

I have the "yes" syndrome with all of my family and a few friends. I need to learn to stop! DH and I were just talking about that!

Re: The "Yes" Syndrome...

i don't mind being helpful because i know that when i need help, i'm more likely to get it... however, i have gotten better recently about not doing things i would normall feel obligated to do (such as going out with friends when i don't feel up to it).

It used to be worse but I find myself learning to say "no" more.

Just call me a doormat. That should answer your question.

Re: The "Yes" Syndrome...

While I think I'm assertive enough most of the time, I think I have a spinoff syndrome -- I often have trouble saying "no" without qualifying it in some way. I feel as if I must have a good excuse to say no and that sometimes just saying, "No, I don't think I'm up for that" or "No, I'm sorry, I can't help today" is not an acceptable answer. I often feel that I owe an explanation when I say no.
