Went for my monthly last night
And was told I gained too much weight this past month
She said I need to cut out all the crap and only eat healthy. She said I need to up my veggies and water.
On the good side, she said it is perfectly ok to use the elliptical....she wants me to do it it twice a day 45 minutes each. But, that is just not possible for me. I work 11 hour days - everyday. I'm already up at 5:30 every morning and DH doesn't get home from work until 10pm at night. I need to see him/talk to him before I hit the sack for the night.
She said it wouldn't be a bad thing if I aimed to lose a few pounds!
I have to go back in 2 weeks.

Re: Went for my monthly last night
that is ALOT of exercising It seems like you would be getting your heartrate too high
I do the elliptical 3-4 times a week for about2--25 minutes each time (depending on how I am feeling) The doc said that is more than sufficient

Re: Went for my monthly last night
every book i have read and every doctor i have spoken to said you should NEVER lose weight during a pregnancy on purpose.
i'm not a doctor, but most people will tell you that the baby does NOT get nutrition from fat or calorie stores in your body - it gets it from what you eat each day.
if you were to eat healthy and continue to provide nutrition to your baby, and in the process happened to lose a few pounds, that's one thing... but it sounds like your doc wants you to go on a diet! i would be very wary...
also, keep in mind that some women just cannot help how much weight they gain during their pregnancies, no matter how well they eat.
lots of to you.

I agree. I think it is perfectly fine for your dr to suggest that you change your eating habits and substitute some of the junk food for healthier food, but I wouldn't aim to lose weight or exercise more than you are comfortable with.
at my 32 week visit, I gained 7 lbs and I was really concerned but my dr just kind of laughed it off and said it may be water weight gain and also to try to eat more veggies.

Ditto on ALL counts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think your doctor is being wayyyy to hard on you. If you dont mind, May I ask how much weight you gained for her to tell you such a thing?

Re: Went for my monthly last night
Take what they say with a grain of salt. I've been told almost my entire pregnancy that I've been gaining too much weight and that there's nothing I can do about it now. I eat very healthy foods, avoid too many sweets, and I walk everyday - I'm a firm believer that a woman's body will put on the correct amount of weight that is needed to create a healthy baby. Some women can do that in less than 20lbs, while other women need 50lbs+ to get the job done. As long as you and baby are healthy, there should be no worries. - I'm past due and have not gained any weight for the past three weeks - holding steady at a weight gain of 47lbs....not as bothered by it anymore as I was earlier in the pregnancy. I'm confident it will come off after DS arrives.

Re: Went for my monthly last night
Your doctor is SO WRONG!! I'd be p*ssed! telling you to eat healthy is one thing, but that you need to lose some weight and use the elliptical that much?!?!?!? That's ridiculous! I would have told her h*ll no!!!

Re: Went for my monthly last night
I think some of the stuff she said was to use a "scared straight" approach.
So I will do my best with exercising and eating better and hopefully it will pay off.
I just find it weird that my belly measurements are to the T with where I am in my pregnancy.
