So Fred is set up for PT starting March 18..(my birthday and the day he originally went into cardiac arrest)
That's my DH's birthday, too!
I'm glad to read good updates. I hope that he continues to improve!

well Fred went to the eye doc today. he needs glasses..he's near sighted..
good luck getting him to wear glasses.
They didn't have any trouble getting him to the doc. But I will say that most places in LI are very bad as far as handicap accessible..what a shame.

good luck getting him to wear glasses.
They didn't have any trouble getting him to the doc. But I will say that most places in LI are very bad as far as handicap accessible..what a shame.
Can he wear contacts? From the beginning, I couldn't imgaine him using his leg but he's come a long way. I'm sure he'll ease into it. Wanting to see things & not being able to walk up closer should be a pretty good incentive.

he still has some fine motor skills issues so contacts wouldn't work. He wouldn't bother putting them in either. Just can't see it. One step at a time. He may be ok with the glasses.
he is due to see the shrink today, let's see if dad can get him to go.

Gary has been going through evaluation for his sight these last few weeks. The 1st thing he told the dr was "If I need glassed I will NOT wear them". We still aren't sure of the outcome, he's still being tested.
I agree with you about handicap accessibility. It's a real shame for anyone in a wheelchair.
Good luck with the dr today. Hopefully Fred will go. He may even like the idea of being able to talk to someone.

yep, if he wants to order some new mini cars or coins from the mint, too bad, bathe first..then we'll order it.
It will take a lot of guts to do that, but I think dad has the guts.

I like that idea of bribing him to bathe. When DH hasn't shaved in awhile and then he does, I make a big deal about it and tell him how handsome he looks.

I AGREE! It's like having a child sometime. If you keep giving into them they get spolied. There comes a time when enough is enough and it's time to start getting back to a "normal" routine.

exactly, now that he is better and the meds are helping, we can start treating him a little different. He has no choice but to bathe. We were considering taking away his soda if he doesn't..he drinks a case a day! I think that's 12 cans right?..maybe it's 24..either way it's 12 cans a day usually...that's the dry drunk coming out. That used to be beer.

That's great he's no longer a diabetic!
Tell him there is a therapist named Jessica in the p/t department with big ta-ta's...maybe that will give him some motivation Gary didn't think she was the "nicest" person, but he enjoyed looking at her
