repost from NFR - cleaining a mattress?
I'm reposting this on pregnancy, b/c I'd like to know if it's okay to even keep this mattress in the baby's room since it's not brand new, I'm nervous.
How would you suggest cleaning a mattress/box spring? We have a 7 or 8 year old Kings down, Queen sized, double pillow top in our spare bedroom. Problem is our spare room is about to become our baby's room. We have no storage area in the house (no garage ), but we are planning on moving this summer so I wanted to keep the mattress so as to use it in the spare room in our new home. However, I'm not sure how long the baby will be in the same room as the mattress and I want to ensure good air quality in there so I want to really clean the mattress, even though the baby won't obviously sleep on it.
My mom suggested one of those hypoallergenic covers that are supposed to kill dust mites. We keep the room clean, but I'm sure over the years with the cats especially (indoor only though) the thing needs a good cleaining/disinfecting.
Any suggestions?

DH works for Chem-Dry carpet and upolstery cleaners and they clean mattress's all the time. I believe they use a citrus based cleaner. He had cleaned DD's a few times. So having it cleaned is an option. I can find out how much if you are interested.

Re: repost from NFR - cleaining a mattress?
He thinks it is around $175 to clean a queen with a double pillowtop, but if you want you can call his office and get a definite price. The number is 631-878-7088. The service suffolk and nassau county. The girl who answers the phone is Terri, she is very nice and will help you with any questions you may have. If you decide to do it, you can ask for DH, his name is Noel (rhymes with hole) , he will do the best job possible for you!

Thank you so much for this - I'm going to call this week to set something up... I may have him do the rug in that room too, but we have to get the old furniture out first.
