Not a peep in 14 hours....

I'm getting a little concerned. Chat Icon hasn't made ANY sort of pop, jump, kick or bubble since last night. I was up all night and didn't feel him once. I even resorted to drinking a coke at 4AM to see if the caffeine would stimulate him a little bit.. Nothing... Now I'm sitting here drinking OJ hoping that maybe that will wake this little bean up..

Ugghhh I know i"m probably just being paranoid and he's probably just in there cozy and sleeping but holy crap is this scaring me. I'm going to wait another 1/2 hour and call the MD..Chat Icon

Re: Not a peep in 14 hours....

My midwife said to drink a whole glass of cold juice and then lay on your left side with your hand on your belly. If you still don't feel movement after that then call!!!
You're right, it is probably nothing, but it is better to be safe than sorry!

Re: Not a peep in 14 hours....

It is very normal to not feel movement for a day or two...I went through it when I was PG and it scared me!! Especially since I was so used to him kicking me all the time.

What I did when it got close to no movement for 24 hours was to lay back in a reclining chair, drink juice like you did and sit in a silent room and just wait...I eventually felt the little thuds that turned into his kicks.

It can't hurt to call the doc if you are concerned but chances are all is fine, baby is just being quiet and relaxing. The one time I got concerned, I was on my way to the appointment to be looked at and of course he started kicking me as I was driving Chat Icon Nothing like scaring his mama!

It's totally normal not to feel movement for a day or two - they tend to sleep a lot when they're going through a huge growth spurt (it happens when they're out of you too - love those sleepy days! Chat Icon)

If you have any worries though, just call your ob/gyn, and come in for an ultrasound and/or to hear the hearbeat Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Not juice, nor coke, nor food woke this little guy.

Until his daddy started singing Live at the top of his lungs to the belly

Only then did the little man stir.. Either he's already a fan or he was just annoyed that there was this loud obnoxious noise entering his sacred space. Either way, thank God!

Now don't do that again, little guy!

*Whew* me too. I really HATE calling my OB's service. I just feel like such an idiot when I call. Not that they make you feel like an idiot, I just know that 90% of the time it's just paranoia..

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Laura, I'm so happy to hear he moved! My little peanut will not move for a day and then for like two days won't stop! I know that I've been a little more paranoid about it this week since reading the post about the girl who was 27 weeks and lost the baby!

Re: Not a peep in 14 hours....

I don't want to frighten you ladies but you are all misinformed. Not feeling your baby move at all for a day or two is NOT normal. I'm not saying it means there is something wrong with the baby most often it is nothing but I know too many stories of women who silently worried and when they finally thought about calling their Dr it was too late. Decreased fetal movement is something that should always be discussed with your OB. Never feel embarrassed about calling your Dr. Remember they work for you. Chat Icon

Another tip on helping a baby get to move is try putting a radio to your belly or something else very noisy.

No disrespect, but I believe YOU are the one misinformed. It is COMPLETLEY normal to not feel movement for a day or two. Many times you just don't notice the small movements as you are going about daily life, so it may appear that there is no movement when in fact there is.

I agree that 2 days with NO noticed movement at all warrants a call to the dr...but in most of these cases the baby is fine and just being sluggish and resting...the percentage of times where something has actually happened to the baby is rare. Does it happen? Yes! Is it common? NO. If you personally know many women who lost their babies later in pregnacy then I stand corrected but chances are you haven't. You may have heard stories like we all have....but it is not commonplace.

If we all rushed to the doctors every time we felt no movement for one day, they would be innundated with women.

I am in no way saying to take non movement lightly....but I would wait until a full 24 hours has passed before becoming concerned....

My midwife just told me the exact same thing at my 27 week appt. She said to never hesitate to call the emergency # and not to feel embarassed about it, it the juice thing doesn't work first.

Re: Not a peep in 14 hours....

I had a slow moving day on Wednesday and was completely freaked out too. Cranberry-apple juice got her going though (just a little stir). I guess she was tired that day.

Glad to hear Chat Icon started moving again. I hate those scares. Chat Icon
