PCOS treatment
I was just curious how everyone who has PCOS is getting treated. I know every dr. is different but I just want to know what options are out there. I haven't started anything yet because I just found out but my dr. wants me on clomid from cd3-7 then estradiol from cd8-12 then progesterone after I O. What is everyone else doing. Thanks.
Signed, all new at this and very confused

Re: PCOS treatment
Are you insulin-resistant? Did they give you the 2 hour glucose test?
If you're IR, they'll usually start you on Metformin (that's what I've been on for the past month and a half). Sometimes the RE will want to see if the Metformin alone will cause O. Then they'll have you try Clomid.
My RE wanted me to take Clomid right away, but something in my gut told me just to try the Met first. We'll see what happens.
I'm pretty new to this, too--so we can be new to this together.

Re: PCOS treatment
thanks for responding, I haven't had a glucose test yet, I will ask my dr. about it. Right now I am waiting for my period so I can do the CD3 testing, and will go from there. Do you temp at all? This is were I am very confused, I have been temping since Aug, 2006 and I almost always get a temp rise after a +opk, there have been about 4-5 cycles that this hasn't happened out of 18. Would I still get a temp rise if I wasn't ovulating? This is why I was kinda surprised by the diagnoses, but I do have symptoms, adult acne, skin tags, difficulty losing weight, overweight etc....

I don't temp--I'm also hypothyroid, which means that my temps don't typically follow the "norm". I do use the Clearblue fertility monitor, though--that's actually how I figured out I wasn't ovulating.
I'm tempted to say that you might still get a temperature rise even if you don't o, only because I get ALL the symptoms of O, and I'll be positive that I did, but then when they check via blood test, it's always negative for O.
Definitely ask for the glucose test--that's actually one of the really important tests they need to do for PCOS. The CD3 test is just as important, but I know that's already on the agenda for you.

Re: PCOS treatment
PCOS treated with metformin and synthroid for hypothyroid, which means that I'm wide awake and energized while I sit in the bathroom.
