Is anyone a vegetarian and pregnant?
If so, what books or websites are any advice do you have?
My sister is PG and is a vegetarian and would appreciate any help.
TIA

Re: Is anyone a vegetarian and pregnant?
If she's vegan, it may be best for her to speak with a dietician...
but if she's vegetarian, maybe just increasing her dairy, egg, and bean consumption would be enough.
I would also look into soy and pregnancy.... Soy has some compounds that are similar to estrogen, I believe.... so eating too much soy may not be the best... but how much is too much I have no idea. Possibly another dietician question

Re: Is anyone a vegetarian and pregnant?
I'm a fish-eating veg...I spoke with my Dr to see if there were any concerns and she didn't have any. As long as your sister is healthy, there shouldn't be any issues.
She may have to increase her iron intake, but again, I would have her speak with her OB and go from there.

Re: Is anyone a vegetarian and pregnant?
I'm vegetarian and haven't had any issues, neither has my OB. I did some research online and watch what I eat very carefully. I typically ate as a healthy vegetarian before, so being so conscious of it now isn't a problem. Amazon has some great reviews of books, so she can check there for books that may provide her with information she specifically needs.

Re: Is anyone a vegetarian and pregnant?
I'm a fish-eating veggie too (with the occassional wing craving since I've become pregnant).
My dr. said my diet was perfectly healthy. I just made sure I was eating enough protein. I ate tofu and broccoli like every night of my first trimester (I was obsessed). My dr. also made sure that I was goo about taking my pre-natal vitamin.
Congrats to your sister!!
