He is still this woman's son and despite what he did, which is horrific and disgusting and immoral, don't get me wrong, I'm sure she misses her son terribly and if sending him some doritoes and oreos makes her feel better, so be it. It's not a gun or a masseuse. It's a bag of chips.

I have a cousin in prison and his family brings him care packages. A magazine, a pack of smokes, a book. It's not like he's at a spa. He knows where he is. Chat Icon

I think they're already deprived of so much in jail. freedom, career, voting rights, identity, etc.

I don't think that a box of ho ho's is going to undermine the punishment aspect. I don't think the government can or should mandate that prisoners lose all connection to people who love them.

I really don't have an issue with it. Does anyone watch the documentary "Lock up?" It's pretty interesting to see life in the prison system.

As far as the degree situation, do you think a degree earned in prison is viewed the same as a degree earned at say, Hofstra? I'm sure a potential employer would look at that degree and how/where it was earned and be reluctant.
