Am I normal or hormonal?

This is going to sound really crazy but the past couple of weeks have been really difficult. I'm currently 31 weeks and my cousin is 29 weeks. I would be excited about doing this together except for the fact that my cousin's pregnancy was unplanned, she's young and she plans on giving up the baby for adoption (there's more to the story but I'll protect her privacy).

The problem is that I feel not only bad for my cousin but also for my unborn child. My aunt, at first, didn't even congratulate my DH & I when she found out. She's basically kind of ignored me which is not like her since we used to very close. I feel like my child is always going to remind my aunt of her "grandchild" that was given up for adoption as well as bad memories for my cousin. I won't be able to share those memorable moments and forget any special occasions - baptism, 1st birthday, going to school, etc.

Even better, is that I currently don't live on Long Island but all of my family is still there. My Mom & sister have decided not to throw my shower on Long Island (where everyone lives) in order to give my aunt an excuse not to come. So, pretty much, none of my family because of the distance will be celebrating something that's supposed to be a happy occasion.

Sorry for the vent but I just don't know if I'm overreacting or being normal?

I dont think your overreacting at all I totaly see where your coming from I dont have any advise I dont know what I would do but I am sorry you have to feel like this around what is supposed to be a very happy time

the coincidence of your cousin and you becoming pregnant at the same time is truly unfortunate....

to find the silver lining in this awful situation.... at least you understand that your aunt not being excited has nothing to do with YOU.... it has to do with her own miserable situation and sadness of giving up her first grandchild. that's a pretty intense and sad thing.....

the shower situation is frankly wierd. why didn't they plan the shower on LI? I realize they're being sensitive to your aunt's situation.... but do they realize how much you are being asked to sacrifice?

I do not think you are overreacting at all. I do not know the whole situation but it sounds like your Aunt is being a bit selfish. I'm sorry your family is indulging her.
