Re: I was wondering..

Call your doc and he will discuss it with you if that happens sometimes they wait depending on your pregnancy and if your high or low risk

Re: I was wondering..

My childbirth teacher said they need to deliver you within 24hrs of water breaking. You would def. call your MD if your water broke - but I think you'd be asked to report to the hospital.

Re: I was wondering..

i plan on going when the contractions are less than 5 minutes apart. I really don't want to be stuck in the hospital for hours if i don't need to be. Especially since they won't feed me. Chat Icon

Re: I was wondering..

our prep instructor told us you should get to the hospital within 1.5-2 hours after your water breaks (and to not take a bath) because after the water breaks the protection barrier is gone and the risk of infection increases.

If yur water has not broken, but contractions started go when they are about 5-6minutes apart.

Re: I was wondering..

when my water broke, I called my Dr. right away and she said wait until they are consistantly 5 minutes apart for a certain amount of time. Which for me was almost right away, but I took a shower and blew dried my hair and waited for DH to get home from the city.
BTW- My Doc said most of the time your water does not break first.

Re: I was wondering..

when you water breaks you still need to wait for the contractions to be 5 minutes apart. some women their water doesnt break but they have contractions and they can pop it at the hospital. you can go 12 hours with your water broken before having a dry birth. my water broke around 1-2pm and i started having contractions 5 minutes apart at around 5pm. by 7pm they were 3 minutes apart i went to the hospital. and was fine.
