Re: so what exactly happen when you're induced?
I was induced with a pill next to my cervix every 4 hours. It wasn't working fast enough, so the last time they did it, they broke it up-INSIDE ME. I think I jumped 5 feet off the bed, it was so painful to have someone's entire hand trying break it up in there.
Sorry, didn't mean to freak you out.

Re: so what exactly happen when you're induced?
The placed cervadil in my cervix to start labor...for me 20 minutes later it worked....I was sitting in the cafeteria with DH and started getting strong contractions in my back that wrapped around to my front...
They started pitocin later that day to strenghthen them...I was given a drug (nubane i think?) to help with pain, but it just made me feel drunk...I did not like it at all. Next they broke my water, and the contractions really picked up.
An hour after they broke my water, I asked for the epi. After that was in place it was awesome from there...no pain or pressure, I slept the next few hours and my body did what it had to do. I went from 3cm to 9cm between 7 and 9pm (stuck at 3cm all day though). I finally hit 10 cm at 9:45 and DS was born at 9:51.
I had a wonderful experience and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Re: so what exactly happen when you're induced?
They first insert Cervadil to help thin out your cervix and hopefuly it helps you to dialte too. then hours later or the next day they start you on Potocin. Potocin is a drug that forces your uterus to contract. Contractions make you dialate. They give you a small dose of it at first. As your contractions get closer they will up the amount of potocin. they also periodically cehck your cervix to see how much you've dilated. Once you hit 10 cm you are ready to push. you can opt top have epidural anywhere from 4-7 cm. Some dr's do it sooner.

Re: so what exactly happen when you're induced?
I am getting induced in a few weeks, just spoke to my doctor on their procedure on how they operate.
As the op mentioned: I will check in late Minday night, get cervidil (she said it could take up to 24hours), then the following day I will get Pitocin, after that and I proceed to 4-5cm I can get my epidural. In the mean time I will get demiral. She said it can take anywhere from a day to several days. It all depend son your body and how you are progressing.

Re: so what exactly happen when you're induced?
I got Cervadil for the 12 hours - and still wasn't dilated at all. They wanted to do it again for another 12 hours. I told them no way - I wanted a csection. I was 12 days late - not dialated at all - and there had to be a reason why.
We did a section and Jack was 10lbs so that's why i never dialated!

Re: so what exactly happen when you're induced?
My induction was done 3 days before my due date, I was dilated already so all they did was give me pitocin and break my water...baby came out very quickly after that!

Re: so what exactly happen when you're induced?
I was induced and while it wasn't an entirely unpleasant experience, it did take a BLOODY long time and I was in labor for about 3 days (induced Sat am early and had my baby vaginally at 9 pm on Monday night) Induction does raise the risk of having to have a c-section, so be aware of that.

I got cervadil inserted into my cervix. They check you and if in 12 hours you are not dilated (which was the case with me) they insert another one. I also had pitocin and some other pill inserted into my cervix...forgot the name. Long story short within 48 hours I never got past 2 cm and ended up with a c-section.

I wanted to be induced too but my OB was not for it becuase she felt this exact thing was going to happen. MY son was 9lb 14oz at birth. I too was not dialated but we knew he was big so I had a section on my due date.

Re: so what exactly happen when you're induced?
My induction failed. They put the cervidel in on sunday night and left it in for 12 hours....nothing happened. Then they tried to dialate me with a foley balloon. It got me to 4cm and meanwhile they started the pitocin. I had contractions every 2-3 minutes but I never dialated past 4cm. Finally I had a c-section tuesday morning....it was the longest 32 hours of my life
