Re: Did anyone give anything up for Lent?

I could not think of something I really thought was substantial to give up, so instead I thought I would be more active in charity, and try not to curse. Cursing is my vice for sure.

I haven't decided what to sacrifice but I am thinking maybe I will try to just be a better person and be nicer and not catty or gossipy.

I really want to try and get to church.
No meat today, no meat any Friday until after Easter.
I'd love to say no sweets, but, that would be tough.

Re: Did anyone give anything up for Lent?

No sweets ( no candy or cakes ) ,

No meat ( easy for me b/c I do not like it),

and I am going to try to give up yelling at my class. I teach in NYC at what is considered the "worst" Intermediate school in the district. It is hard not to yell when the kids are out of control, but I will try.

Re: Did anyone give anything up for Lent?

I'm trying to be more objective (and honest) towards others.

not that I'm a b*tch or dishonest, but sometimes I don't always have the nicest thoughts and realize I may not make the best decisions.

Re: Did anyone give anything up for Lent?

Giving up soda...its my only vice! Diet Pepsi is my drug. lol

Do you think seltzer counts as soda?

ETA: I will also do my best not to eat any meat on Fridays. I always start off well, then I start to forget. I accidentally ate meat yesterday forgetting about not eating it on Ash Wednesday either. Oops. Chat Icon

Re: Did anyone give anything up for Lent?

I'm going to church as often as possible and I'm trying to have a more positive and charitable outlook. I figure its better to better myself than to gives something up.

that's actually what you are supposed to do during lent- giving up things like candy and chocolate are really what we have little children do, to practice giving things up for Lent for when they get older and should give up something more meaningful.
