Speaking of umbilical cords

I feel like a terrible mommy but I skeeve those umbilical cord things on their little BBs. How long are they there? What do you have to do for them? And are they as gross as I am thinking or do you get used to it? Chat Icon

Re: Speaking of umbilical cords

Like a week, just keep the diaper folded under it and swab it with a cotton ball soaked with rubbing alcohol.

DD's fell off in a few days and we had to just put alcohol on it till it did.

You're probably right. It didn't even bother me when I checked to see if my nephew had a dirty diaper and I got poo on my finger.

The cord can't be worse than getting poo on your finger...right? Chat Icon

Re: Speaking of umbilical cords

i actually have dealt with it before - i used to babysit a newborn boy. i thought it would be grosser than it actually was - it shrivels up a lot and you just put rubbing alcohol on it until it falls off. it's not as bad as it seems - promise!!

Re: Speaking of umbilical cords

I saw these on the BRU websiteUmbiliCare Bodysuits

Are they worth it? The reviews are mixed on BRU.

Re: Speaking of umbilical cords

Ours was there for about 2-3 weeks, we were told to do nothing for it. So we basically just ignored it until it fell off.

Its not that bad really.

ETA: The bodysuits are not necessary, we used the t-shirts, but you really dont even need those, you can just use a regular onesie. And the Newborn diapers fall under the belly button so thats not an issue either.

When its your kid, you will be puked on, peed on, pooped on, etc so the belly button becomes the least gross thing...
