Q about urine tests

when i went for my 8w appointment i had a sono scheduled first and my dr appointment right after (same office). the sono technician told me to empty my bladder before the sono so i did - and then when i was called in to see the dr, they told me they needed a urine sample.

well i told them i wasn't going to be able to give them one, and she asked if the sono tech told me to pee in a cup - which she hadn't, so i didn't.

i am guessing that if my urine test at 5.5 weeks was abnormal they would have had me wait around to give them another one, but they didn't seem too concerned.

i have my ultrascreen scheduled for 11.5 weeks, will i have to have a full bladder for that? are the urine tests really that important? anyone know what they test for?

does the doctor give you a cup for your fmu to bring in? They do for me, and I don't have to pee for them in the office...just at home and bring it in.

They are testing for protein in your urine I believe.

I didn't need a full bladder for my ultrascreen, but I do have to leave a urine sample at each visit.

hmmmm, ask them if you can bring in your sample every time...if they can give you a plastic cup that seals. That will prevent you from wanting to float away.

Every appointment I get a plastic cup with lid to bring home so I can bring a urine sample the next appointmet.

They usually just ask you to pee in a cup @ each visit- it's protocol, I've not been able to leave a sample or forgot & it wasn't a big deal. They test for protein, blood & sugar. Whether or not you need a full bladder for the ultra-screen varies place to place.

At my office they are testing for protein, sugar, and any bacteria (catch UTIs).

I expect to do it every time I go, I don't have to bring a sample with me, they have cups there for that.

I give urine at each visit and they put a stick in it to test for protein (I think).

For my ultrascreen, I didn't need a full bladder. It's best to call the office to see if you do need to have a full bladder.

They're testing to make sure you haven't been eating cold cuts.
It's very important.

Just a rule of thumb, every time you go to a drs. visit, give them a urine sample lol I learned the hard way. oftentimes lines of communication get crossed.. My OB has those plastic cups in the bathroom so it was always easy to remember.

damn. i guess i better flush that turkey/ham/roast beef/mozarella/blue cheese/hot dog sandwich out of my system then.

I pee in cups at home, too- just to keep in the habit.
Not disposable cups, though- that would be environmentally insesitive!
i use my husband's BobaFet coffee mug.

i have to leave a sample every time i go as well....

they tell me that it's for protein. it's fine - every time i go in i usually wind up running into the bathroom b4 they even call my name. i just make sure to write my name on the cup and leave it for them!
