DS testing
Did anyone not do the usltrascreen. I was at the doctor on Thursday - all is wonderful and opted not do the screening. Anyone else not do it?

Re: DS testing
I did it...because of my age (42) and I don't want an amnio, so I am doing all other testing. Thankfully, the ultrascreen came back great - so both Drs. told me they aren't even going to push for an amnio.

Re: DS testing
I am 31 and had it bc my sister had DS as well as a cousin and aunt all on my mothers side. So I was concerned...anyway it came back great! I was asked if I wanted to go further with testing or genetic counseling and I said no. What will be will be,...

Re: DS testing
My eldest daughter has Down Syndrome, which means I have a 1 in 100 chance of having another child with Down Syndrome. Before I got preggo with DS my DH and I discussed what forms of prenatal testing we would have. We chose to do the Ultrascreen and take it from there. The test is non-invasive and there arent any risks involved. We were so happy with the results that we chose not to have any further testing...
Please feel free to FM if you have any questions regarding testing for Down Syndrome.

Re: DS testing
I'm in my mid 30's.... so we're going to do it. I like that it's not invasive. I'd be thinking twice about an amnio, though....

Re: DS testing
I wasn't given the option not to have it (was 26 with no family history) but I looked at is as a chance for a sonogram

same here although if it comes back high risk for DS i will definitely not get an amnio, so i am really just looking at this as a chance to see my blob becoming a baby!

Re: DS testing
32 here no family history but wasn't really given a choice.
I was told to do it and why and it seemed fine with me. Very non-invasive and one test vs the alternative seems an easy call to me.
Amnio i'll try to avoid most likely. For me I hope to see more of the baby then, so it's fine by me.

Re: DS testing
I decided to do it. I figured that it is non-invasive, a more reliable screen than the AFP, and a chance to see my baby. I liked getting more confirmation that things were OK b/c I was very nervous of another m/c in the 1st trimester. No matter what the results were I wouldn't have opted for the amnio.
