I chip in on gifts with others to make a larger purchase, like a stroller..etc.
Normally I purchase a solo gift, but sometimes chipping in allows for a bigger item
same here. my bridesmaids all chipped in and got me and DH our luggage for the HM, which was a terrific gift, and IMO better than getting a cake server or place setting - i think it's great when you can chip in and get a big gift that's also useful.
