FMLA confusion

I see some people mentioning FMLA like it is paid maternity- isn't it just a 12 week guarantee that you will have a job to return to?

answered my own question- but in case it helps anyone- here you go:

Covered employers must grant an eligible employee up to a total of 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons:

for the birth and care of the newborn child of the employee;
for placement with the employee of a son or daughter for adoption or foster care;
to care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) with a serious health condition; or
to take medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition.

also, I think the employer has to have at least 50 employees and conduct business via interstate commerce...

yes- that is correct. Which is why I am not eligible, but I'm not concerned about job security.

50 employees, yes - interstate commerce, no. i work for the county and we get FMLA.

I don't get paid at all. I get 6 weeks short term disability ($170 a week) and then I can take up to 6 weeks unpaid under FMLA.
