Spin-off to the Deephers on here
This is random, but would anyone on Long Island be interested in meeting to discuss an interest for starting an alumnae group for this area? I was actively involved in the one in the city for several years, but I don't live/work there anymore and it's a PITA having to trek into Manhattan all the time to do stuff.
And y'all know that the people who live in the city never want to "leave the island of Manhattan" to do things out here ;). I've tried planning stuff in LB even in the summertime and like one person would show up.
Just thought it would be a fun way to meet new people.......especially if we kept it limited to every couple months or so. I know everyone is *so busy*.

Re: Spin-off to the Deephers on here
Im one of the LI Deephers that showed up once. Id be more inclined to stay here on Long Island.
Sadly my chapter has been closed for a while and my house is being rented to a fraternity who essentially destroyed it.

Yeah, I think I remember you coming to that one event ;).
I don't really stay in touch with my chapter anymore either. I don't know if they still have the same house.
I keep in touch with some of the ladies from my time, but I feel SO OLD around the "actives".

Re: Spin-off to the Deephers on here
We were a colony for a few years in the early 90's and never became a full chapter so I never became a full sister. They wanted us to get 30 new members in one semester at a time when enrollment was dropping at our school so that was the end of us.

Wow, that *****. I think there is a way that you can become an alumnae initiate at this point in time. If you even care to LOL.
I meet a lot of people who don't want to be involved after college because of similar experiences like you describe that happened with headquarters.
I like being involved for the social aspect. Trying to do everything that headquarters would like us to do, would be more than a full-time job though.
That's why I would just be looking to start an "interest group" at best right now.

Re: Spin-off to the Deephers on here
I have my pledge pin, my sisterhood pin, my chapter guard and my officer dangles. I would love to pass them on to a legacy someday, but at the rate we are going, we'd be lucky to be able to afford to send our kids to college in the first place.
I really had to search in my closet to dig these out:

Re: Spin-off to the Deephers on here
I would love to. I don't really keep in touch with a lot of my friends from my chapter. It would be nice to meet up with some other people since I just moved out to Long Island and don't know as many people here anymore!
My husband was in a fraternity and is still friends with most of his brothers. They have an alumni chapter and he finds though they have by laws and everything and it drives my husband nuts. He is like " I just want to hang out w/ my friends - not be in a meeting anymroe"

Me too! I didn't know there were any LI events, but I deactivated my senior year so maybe I am not on mailing lists or whatever...Sadly I also think the chapter at my college has closed in the past few years due to low numbers of pledges.

I'd totally be down for doing brunch or dinner whatever if you ladies want to meet up.
What days/locations are best for everyone?
