what do you think?

We have had our kitty for a year and a month. we work all day my husband works from home two days a week sometimes less then that. we were thinking of getting another kitty to keep ours company. however i dont think i could ever love another kitty like i love dede.
so do i get another cat just so he has a friend? i dont want him to get jealous of the new cat.

any advise would help.
thanks

Re: what do you think?

we got our cat a kitten as a friend

it's been working out great

he is alot more active b/c he has a side kick

we made sure we got the opposite sex - so he wouldn't get mad

it's so cute to see them together

Re: what do you think?

If you are not sure if your cat will accept another cat start by fostering for a shelter or rescue group. If you do foster or adopt it should not be a kitten, that would be unfair to an adult cat.

Re: what do you think?

Don't worry about loving them as much - you totally will!

As for the companionship part - I had an older cat, maybe around 10 or 11, and my parents didn't really give him the attention he deserved. He was overweight and lathargic all the time. So when I moved out, my DH's mom offered to take him in. She had 3 other young cats and I was paranoid that my cat would hate it. Well, turned out, he LOVED it! He lost a ton of weight, became super energetic and got a little "kitten" back in him which i hadn't seen in years. he's about 15 or so now, and he's doing so well- and she even brought home another cat! It was the best thing for my cat to be around other cats.

I wouldn't worry about not loving the new cat as much. I thought the same thing when we got Porter. I thought Lucky hated me for bringing this 70lb dog to the apt. I seriously think i went through post pardum because of Porter. But now him and Lucky are best friends and i love them both the same
