Did anyone take any prescription for a chronic cough
I am coughing 24/7. I am debating on calling back the doctor. I don't want to take anything, but the plain Robitussin does nothing.

Re: Did anyone take any prescription for a chronic cough
My OB prescribed me some cough medicine with codeine in it. It got rid of my cough right away and I had the best night of sleep during this entire pregnancy. And it was completely safe for the baby.

Re: Did anyone take any prescription for a chronic cough
my advice to you is call the doctor and take care of it now! I had a cough that progressivley got worse while I was pregnant, I tried to put it off and three weeks later landed myself, about 30 weeks pregnant, in the hospital...it was a nightmare...and really my own fault if I had taken care of it sooner. It turned out ok and I ended up on four prescriptions as they were concerned with me developing pneumonia...better to be safe than sorry....good luck and hope you feel better

Re: Did anyone take any prescription for a chronic cough
Thanks girls. I called and my primary doctor isn't in until 3! I saw him on Tuesday but my cough hasn't gotten any better. Ugh that's so long from now . If I could just get something for this cough - I will be the happiest girl on earth.

I was sick at one point during my pregnancy with a bad, painful cough. My dr. prescribed medicine with codeine in it too - Hycodan I think it was called. Apparently safer than Robitussin (so he said).

Oh how happy I would be! Think I will get that prescribed at 15 weeks?

Re: Did anyone take any prescription for a chronic cough
After waiting and waiting I spoke to the doctor and he said that codene is a Class C drug and it's not off limits to pregnant women but also not encouraged. So he told me sometimes we have to make sacrifices for our unborn child.
I think it would be more beneficial to my unborn child if I could stop coughing, so I can start eating again!

Re: Did anyone take any prescription for a chronic cough
I have been so sick since New Year's. I went to the dr a few weeks ago and tried to tough it out with robitussin. Since the cough was getting worse, I went back and the dr prescribed an antibiotic and a nasal spray steriod for the sinus and lung inflamation. I checked with my OB before filling the prescriptions and he said to go ahead with them. What a difference! The cough is still there, but much better. I can actually say an entire sentence without coughing in between each word! This is important when you are a teacher!
Feel better!
