Credit report...charge off
ok so Anthony once had a pc richard account with a 5k limit on it.. he always threw out his statements and the last time he used the card was 2003...
This past summer a collection agency called and said he had an outstanding $350 charge on that card and that he had to pay so it wouldnt ruin his credit he paid without even questioning it
so now i find out about it. first off charge wasn't his and its on his credit with a CA as a charge off
are there any steps to get rid of this
I've been searching through creditboards.com and dont see much about charge offs
thanks

Re: Credit report...charge off
i think you'd have to contact pc richards directly and speak with them. i'm pretty sure they can remove it. otherwise check with the credit report company and see if they can help.

I think if you get a free credit report, and you see it on there, you can actually dispute what you see through the reports website, be careful, so of the sites give you a free report but have you sign up for a free trial service, which you never remember to cancel or it a hassel, but there are sites out there that are free, I just did mine.

Re: Credit report...charge off
1) Contact PC Richard and explain that he did not make the charge, was unaware of it until a collector called him, and explain that he paid it just to protect his credit. He did not dispute it right away? They may ask why he did not make a big deal about it then. They should be able to fix it, but surely after some paperwork and they will probably investigate it.
2) Just as a rule, never just throw away bank/account statements. Invest in a shredder! Unclaimed receipts and improperly discarded statements are a sure fire way of getting your identity stolen or fraudulent charges.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Re: Credit report...charge off
Besides speaking to PC Richards.. You also need to dispute the item on your credit report..

www.transunion.com
Those are the 2 major bureaus..

Re: Credit report...charge off
I think I charge off is when you owe $1000 and you tell them "well I can pay $500" and they accept it. it's not very good on your report.... definitely look into it. NEVER shred statements! Most CCs will not even send a statement if there is no activity, so that's even MORE of a reason to look at the statement for a card you no longer use.

Re: Credit report...charge off
you need to dispute it with each credit agencey
then they will have to prove that it was his debt - during this time it comes off the report and 99% of the time it doesn't go back on
Jake does this all the time for his clients- FM me and I will have him tell you exactly what to do
