Why does she do this??

When I walk Bella she gets very excited when she sees other people or dogs. But when they come over to pet her, its a whole other story. She is fine if its a person who wants to pet her has a dog with them too, she will actually pay more attention to the person then to the dog, but if it is just a person without a dog she acts all excited but when the person gets close to pet her she will start barking like crazy!! It's so annoying, because she really is a friendly dog, but the bark scares people...She's been exposed to people early on, I don't know what to do. The same thing happens when people come over, she will bark at them for 10 minutes and then finally calm down and be her happy self. What can I do to stop the barking??

I had this with my dog too. When we took her to doggie class this was one issued we explained to them. What the trainer did was make one of her friends stand there and let our dog bark and bark and after a while she calmed down. The friend was able to give treats without barking but she would have a little bouts but was quieter with a few other strangers who wanted to try. The trainer said it has something to do with dominance and if the person or stranger stands there without backing away the dog will realize the people are dominant. I would try that and make sure you have treats on hand for rewards. Hope this info helps.
