Before my belly turns into a basketball...
I started rubbing Jergens lotion all over my stomach after I get out of the shower.
Does this actually help with the stretch marks or am I wasting my time?
I know we are supposed to use cocoa butter, but the lotion I am using has that plus extra Vitamin E in it.

I have heard different things. If your gonna get them then you will no matter what you do, and I have also heard that some people have used it and never got them. They also say if your mom got them then you most likely will. I dont really know but im praying I dont!!

I used Shea's Cocoa butter. I didnt get stretch marks.
It also helped (and you will see down the rd) during the stretching/burning time. Helped.

I have heard didfferent things too. My doctor told me it doesn't work but I slather myself up every day and night anyway!! I use that Palmers Cocoa Butter stuff supposedly designed to help with stretch marks. Who knows if the stuff works though.... so far I am in week 30 and the stretch marks haven't reared their ugly heads yet so maybe there is hope (doubt it though)

Re: Before my belly turns into a basketball...
Well, I can only tell you my experience. I have been religious about applying cocoa butter to my belly. So far, at 35 weeks, no stretch marks yet (knock on wood). Unfortunately, I negelected to lather up my bum, which is the only place where I've gotten stretch marks so far. It's strange b/c I really didn't think my butt got that big.

It is hereditary. I have stretch marks all over my belly. Looks like a cat got to me.

This is what I have read in a few different places. Even though one of my good friends scolds me and tells me that cocoa butter is the real solution, it turns out that stretch marks are supposedly not even what is happening to the surface, which is where the lotion/cocoa butter would go. They are visible on the surface, but it is something going on with one of the underneath layers, the name of which completely escapes me at the moment. I read it in 3 different places so far, so I kind of believe it...however, the lotion/cocoa butter DOES help with the itching that accompanies your stretching skin so go for it. I lotion my belly everyday.

It's all in the genes. You can slather away, but it's all hereditary.

Re: Before my belly turns into a basketball...
I used it religiously from the BFP forward.
I had no stretch marks up until about 30 weeks.
Then all hell broke loose.
My stretch marks still got so bad they bled.

Re: Before my belly turns into a basketball...
With DD#1 I used Palmers Cocoa Butter Cream for Stretch Marks from day one and did not get one stretch mark, I am doing the same this time as well. However, I do think that genetics play a big role in whether or not you will get them.

OMG that's awful!!
Like other readers have said, I don't think any cream or lotion out there can prevent them. I think all they do is perhaps provide some relief, if that.

Re: Before my belly turns into a basketball...
I don't think it helps with strecth marks, but it does feel better. I remember when I was way preggo with Ella, my big belly would feel itchy and stretched if I didn't put cocoa butter on after a shower.
(no stretch marks that time - I'm hoping for the same luck with #2 also)

Re: Before my belly turns into a basketball...
I use this stuff called "belly butter" made by Burt's Bees. So far I don't have any stretch marks, but I don't know if that is a result of the lotion or just genetics

This is so true!
I accepted the inevitable when I asked my mom if she had them and she said 'yes'. I didn't find the first one until 32 or 33 weeks, though. Now I have them over my entire lower belly....
Ladies, start prepping DH now: I have my DH tell me every night that "stretch marks are beautiful".
