How long to get an initial appt?

We've been trying for about 8 months now (5 months of perfectly timed and 3 months of not so perfectly timed). That's reasonable, right? Or am I being too impatient? Anyway, we're going to try 1 more month and then we're going to make an appt.

Should I schedule an appt now for the end of Feb or just wait and see how this cycle goes then make the appt?

Thanks, ladies. I really don't want to have to go. Chat Icon

Oh, BTW, I'm 30 if that matters.

Typically for your age it is recommended to give it a year of well timed intercourse. I know it sounds like a lifetime. Have you talked to your OBGYN, often they can order some of the preliminary stuff like HSG and semen analysis.

You can usually get an appt at NSUH relatively quick, so dont stress about that. Good luck

Re: For those that use NSUH

Thanks. I have spoken to my GYN. He said that after 6-8 months of timed intercourse he recommends seeing a specialist. He also said that typically he doesn't do any testing b/c NS usually just repeats it anyway.

I'll try to be more patient and give it a couple more months! I feel bad complaining when I know so many have been trying for much, much longer but I didn't know who else to ask! Thanks again for the response!

NSUH did not repeat my testing. I got all my tests done through my gyno (HSG, SA and blood work). Dr. Chu at NSUH did not repeat any of these tests.. I got got my records transferred to the RE and that was it.

Re: For those that use NSUH

It took me two weeks to get an appointment after 6 months going on our own and three months with help from my OB/GYN.

Re: For those that use NSUH

I would make an appt. now. If you sense something is wrong, go with your gut. By the time you get through all your initial testing you will be close to a year. I went after 8-9 months of timed intercourse and I am only 26- If I had waited a year I would just be starting to get tested now. Instead we have a diagnosis and have been able to get treatment based on that. Good luck to youChat Icon

Same here...I had already had an HSG and DH a SA and Dr. Cohen didn't repeat them.
It took about 2 weeks to get an appt but only because I needed something in the evening.
