When someone passes away?
A close friend of the family has passed away and I want to send something to his wife and family. What do you usually send? I really don't want to do flowers but maybe a plant?

I'm sorry to hear that...
How about food? I'm sure nobody wants to cook but they still need to eat.

Re: When someone passes away?
My grandmother just passed away, and people sent flowers, fruits and plants. I have to say that my mom had so much fruit, we have fruit for the next month! The flowers died, but the 3 plants that were sent, are still around and lovely.
Also, when we had our baby and lost him, people sent flowers and plants. The flowers are gone, but the plants are still alive and beautiful and remind us of our son everyday.
Just a thought.

Re: When someone passes away?
A plant is nice because they can keep it around rather then flowers that will have to be thrown out. I agree with food though. We just sent a breakfast basket to a friends family and I know they enjoyed it or maybe an edible arrangement.

A plant is nice. If you want to do food - what about a bagel or deli platter?

Re: When someone passes away?
I usually make food and bring it or send food. Cold cut platters and rolls, baked ziti, finger sandwiches, bagel platters etc.

Re: When someone passes away?
When my DH's grandmother passed away, my MIL was spending too much time attending to my FIL and his family, so when friends and family asked, we suggested donations to ACS (Am. Cancer Society) or if they really wanted to send food - we told them when the receptions were at the house, and we usually came home to those fruit baskets in the shape of flowers and it was one less thing we had to prepare for all the family and friends that were coming over.
