this is my blockbuster also... they never told me where they were moving to.. all they said to me was Hicksville was the next closest one.. the guy was so rude too
then we decided to do Netflix, and we LOVE it!! its sooo much easier and it saves you money in the end!

Blockbuster is having lots of problems lately, and even more now that Apple is offering on-line movie downloads.
Some newer TVs can download movies directly from the Internet without a computer. People really like the instant satisfaction of clicking on any movie they want, and just watching it.
I don't think Blockbuster will be around in another 5 years.....

I feel sad now too. I still use my original card from that store that I got when they opened. That's almost 20 years ago.

I remember going there with DH when we were dating in college and picking out a movie to rent. It was a little more spontaneous that ordering from netflix. Although we now belong and love it!

Re: Blockbuster in Levittown is closing
I feel bad, but I don't. I think in the end, Blockbuster got what they did to everyone else.
I remember renting movies at a local Mo & Pop shop. They were the nicest people and it was thri family business. Blockbuster came through and knocked all the little guys out of business. Now other forms of movie-renting have come in and done the same to them
I think they got a taste of their own medicine

That's true! There was a mom and pop place in Commack that always gave out freshly popped popcorn with every rental. I thought that was so great when i was little They KNEW us and would put stuff aside etc

Re: Blockbuster in Levittown is closing
This is for 2007, but since we're only in the first half of January, they may have started closing in 2007.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19489372/
Blockbuster Inc. plans to close 282 stores in the U.S. this year to improve operating margins and expand domestic share, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Thursday.
In 2006, Blockbuster closed 290 U.S. stores and transferred a quarter of the revenue from closed stores to surrounding stores, the company said. It expects similar benefits to surrounding stores from the anticipated closures this year.
Blockbuster has about 5,000 stores in the U.S. and 3,000 outside of the country.
I'm still looking for more recent info, since it seems like all of the closings here are not just a consolidation. They seem to be doing some massive closings... 282 averages out to less than 6 per state. We've seen more than that first-hand, and that's only part of one county in one of the biggest states...

Re: Blockbuster in Levittown is closing
I am actually a store manager for blockbuster video and the only thing I can say is that as far as blockbuster's closing is they were like 7-11.. Everywhere you turn there is a blockbuster and with Netflix and on demand the demand is not that big. But believe me they are not going anywhere..I run a very busy blockbuster in suffolk county and they are trying to shut down the one's that really dont have that much profit probably because there was one right down the block..For instance there was one in setauket and about 2 miles down the road there was lake grove. It makes no sense to be so close and same as hauppage, and smithtown is about the same 2 miles down the road..So I hope I cleared that up..

I agree. I have always hated BB for that reason. They put the locals shops we'd been going to for years out of business and charged over twice the price for a rental!
