Getting unbiased information

Working from the premise that most mass media is controlled by few, and those few are in bed with the government and large corporations, lets assume that a lot of the larger newspapers and TV News programs are biased. If you accept that this is accurate, where do you turn to for unbiased accurate reporting, if you believe in such a thing?

Re: Getting unbiased information

I would read from both sources, make up my own mind & then read the source that I most agree with.

In terms of news, I prefer the BBC. They seem more unbiased or maybe they just align with my views more.

Re: Getting unbiased information

I read from all political views so I know each side of the story. I also watch news from overseas countries so I know their views on a particular situation.

I don't watch or listen to much news other than NPR. I find it to be the most unbiased source & the topics discussed are rarely celebrity related.

Re: Getting unbiased information

I know a lot of people who use BBC as their main news source.

I don't think it's possible for any news source to be unbiased. Even if it's a student writing a book report it's still biased just by what is included and not included and how it's presented. I think it's just important to be aware of those biases and be able to separate yourself and really think about what you are reading.

ETA: I like CNN and NYT, but those are said by some to be "liberal." When people refer to a paper as being liberal or conservative, they are referring to the editorial page, not neccesarily the articles. But I also find some papers to be incedibly biased. In addition many of the tabloid papers are so dumbed down and choose such inane topics that i don't know why anyone considers it "news"..NYPost I'm looking at you! Chat Icon

I won't watch any other news.

I think it's b/c it is not from an "american" perspective, so they will show what US run newsgroups won't.

not sure if this it's true...it's just what I think.

Re: Getting unbiased information

I like NPR radio, BBC News, Pacifica Radio with Amy Goodman. I go to reddit.com and digg.com, where everyday people try to bring up less-publicized stories.

Recent events of the presidential run, for me, point to a media bias -- Kucinich excluded from the ABC debates, Ron Paul excluded from the FOX debates. Also, it has bugged me that information about anomalies and ability to breach the electronic voting machines hadn't been reported in mainstream news until recently; it has received only grassroots attention for several years. I hope these grassroots internet sites play a bigger role in the future.

I'm glad to see another NPR fan here!

Re: Getting unbiased information

HUGE NPR fan here, but even at times NPR can be biased, particularly with regard to reporting on the Middle East.
