Some help?
How do you determine that you are in fact, infertile? I know I have to make an appt. with my obgyn obviously. Or do I override her and go straight to an RE for testing?
Does anyone have any information or is there a simple website I can visit that tells me the list of the order that things happen in such as tests, etc.
Thank you all for any help, I really appreciate it. This is something that is keeping me up at night, just wondering you know....

Re: Some help?
You are technically infertile if you've been unable to achieve pregnancy for one year with timed intercourse.
To begin with, your OB can run/order tests to determine if you are ovulating, if your tubes are blocked, and the quality of your partners sperm.
I learned I wasnt ovulating with my OB and then went to an RE within a few months on my own.

Re: Some help?
Yes, from what I remember being "infertile" is desrbed as a woman under age 35 that does not conceive after one year of timed intercourse and 6 months in women over 35...Your OB can order the preliminary tests if you feel comfortable with them , but my advice in speaking from my own experience is that I wouldnt go any further with my OB than just the initial testing..I unfortunately wasted 8 months w/ my old OB while he had me on Clomid not properly monitered...With me, my "symptoms" aside from trying for 1 year were- irregular AF& no thermal shift in temp (and to be honest, just a plain old gut feeling that something just wasnt right) Good Luck !!!!!

Re: Some help?
Technically if you are over 35 and have had 6 months TTC with no luck or under 35 and 1 year TTC with no luck then they consider that IF. If you have irregular periods though or suspect you are for another reason I would start getting tested. Some IF workups are basic like SA and blood work. I would get those first and then go for the more intrusive if everything comes out fine. Good Luck
