Ok, I REALLY need your help with this one... (long)

Welcome to Charlotte, NC, where there is ONE Infertility clinic.

After taking Provera, AF finally showed up today. Of course, that presents a problem, because my RE is closed on Saturday and Sunday. I need to go for my CD3 bloodwork. So I called and left a message, asking if I can go to Urgent Care around here and have my CD3 bloodwork done there.

I missed the callback, but they left me a message saying that I can't do that, because my Dr. ordered a 2 hour glucose tolerance test--which can't be done there. I'm royally p***ed because she never told me that--I actually remember she was writing down what they'd need to test me for as I was talking, and she said "Oh, I'm just writing down what we'll need to look at for your bloodwork". She wrote 2 GTT (which looks like 2 CiTT, so I had no clue what it was). She never bothered to tell me.

So, this nurse goes on to say "Oh, it's ok, just come in tomorrow at 7:30 tomorrow, and we'll do your GTT and your bloodwork for you. Um, yeah, ok--is there any chance I have a JOB??!!!

THIS is the kicker--please tell me if I'm crazy here:

RE directed me to start Metformin right away--I've been on it for 3 weeks. WHY would I be having a GTT now that I've been on an INSULIN SENSITIZER for some time? Shouldn't I have had that before starting the Met?

Well I'm totally clueless on all the PCOS related stuff, but here are my thoughts. First, I can't believe a fertility clinic can be closed on weekends- that outrages me! Is there somewhere else within driving distance you can go to? And second, unfortunately IF doesn't work around your work schedule, so if you need a blood test on a certain day you might have to go in late (heck, my boss doesn't even flinch anymore when I tell him I'm going to be late). I don't know why you would take an insulin test after being on the Met? Maybe to make sure it is effective for you?? Can you call the nurse back tomorrow and ask why? Sorry you are having a hard timeChat Icon

Clueless on the PCOS too, maybe they want to see if the metformin is working?

Also, there is no lab in your area. Here we can take the rx to any local labratory (like Quest) and have bloodwork done.

Sorry you're having these problems. As you know, I went to REACH, here in Charlotte and they are open 365 days a year. I went in for many appointments on weekends. I dont know of the other clinics and wasnt the happiest with my particular doctor, but the practice was very accomodating.

I forgot that you went to REACH! Which Dr. did you see? I notice there's a female, and I honestly feel more comfortable with a woman...

I just can't believe a place like this would be closed on the weekends! Chat Icon

Meghan, do you have any input on the GTT and already being on Metformin? I'm SO confused about that! Chat Icon

I went to Dr Crain and would not recommend him. Dr Teaff (pronounced taff) is female she did two of my ultrasounds and was very nice. I would go back to her or Dr. Wing. If you were to ever need monitoring for iui or ivf that is only from 7-9am.

I cant help you out on the metformin question - sorry. :o( It does seem a little strange though. I can;t believe they wouldnt be open on a weekend! Crazy.
