OMG FORTY FIVE MINUTES of my life I will never get back
I almost feel like I was just almost temporarily kidnapped!!!!
I went to pick up a pair of boots from the shoemaker outside of Roosevelt Field (by D*ck's Sporting Goods) and I literally was trapped in there for 45 minutes while the shoemaker yammered away at me!!!!
First I couldn't hear him because of the machinery, so I just nodded for a while and figured he wouldn't be long (he was also just working on my boot that I dropped off on Tuesday that was supposed to be ready yesterday!). Then he came closer and I realized I really couldn't understand his English.
I can tell you this (I *think*) - his daughter had a baby two days ago, his son sleeps all day with the radio on and porn and doesn't answer his small phone, someone was circumcised, his brother in law has a million house and he took the bus to the hospital when he was diagnosed with high cholesterol & diabetes. And he's not stupid. And he's from Sicily.
And his fly was open and he doesn't really have teeth.
I thought I was going to pass out from the shoe polish fumes. I never got to go shopping at the mall with my giftcard.

OMG- My sister and I were just saying when we were there after the holidays- who thinks to get their shoe's fixed here!
I guess not enough people since he sounds really LONELY!

It's near work and I couldn't think of another place (although I'm sure they are around!).
Funny thing is there was a girl in there when I got there! But when she left I think what he was originally talking about was the girl being a PITA (her shoes weren't ready either and she was all "Well, when??).
Also kinda funny that when I dropped off on Tuesday, he barely grunted that they'd be ready the next day and it would be "like $5" when I asked how much!

I think that's cute- batty old man. My Grandma gets a little like that.
I probably wouldn't have thought it was cute if I was there!

My DH and I actually switched where we go for our dry cleaning because the owner did this ALL the time.
There was one time DH was really late coming home (he's usually late, but this was "extra" late) and he told me it was because the owner took DH in the back to show him the machines
DH is too polite to say "oh, no, I have to go now" or to cut someone short while talking.
We kept going until about a year ago.
Now the we are at the dry cleaners 5 minutes to drop off and then pick up.
