Quoting the first post....
Okay, I am just curious, but why do people reply to a post and quote it? I often see this in the first or second response. Isn't it implied that you are responding to the original post? Why quote it? I can see quoting later posts to support an opinion, but why quote the original post?

Re: Quoting the first post....
If a person constantly rescinds their words, I'd quote it so that I wouldn't be considered rude. If the original person deletes the original post after starting drama, I'd quote it. I'd quote it for a lot of reasons actually.

ITA. It makes for a looooong thread.
I always edit things I quote so just what I am referring to shows as the "quoted"

this annoys me too-- especially in the first response. Makes no sense.

Re: Quoting the first post....
Honeslty, I'm too lazy to scroll down to look at what I'm responding to. If I quote it, I can see what it is I'm responding to right there in my response as I type. I only do it if I have something lengthy to respond, though.

I quote so I remember what I am responding, too.

Re: Quoting the first post....
I don't even know if I quote right away - meaning, if I'm the first response - weird?? I've never noticed - I bet I'm an "offender" and don't even know it But I never thought about it - hmmmm

Re: Quoting the first post....
You never know if you are the first response. On a popular topic, during a busy part of the day, I'll respond to a post that has no responses, and by the time I finish what I'm writing, and post the reply, I'm #5 or later. If I quote what I'm referencing, it's obvious what I'm referring. Sometimes the discussion takes some weird turns, and if you don't quote what you are answering, it looks like your responding to something that you didn't even know was posted.
