Curbing your spending without curbing your enthusiasm
dh and I have decided to make a more concerted effort to save more money.
I am all for it, but I realized that while I don't spend a lot of money on myself (expensive clothes etc) I spend money on doing things...events, parties, dinners, etc.
just this weekend, we took 2 of our nieces of the Museum of Natural History and to lunch after...costing us about $90.
then last night we took them on a school trip ice skating (free for us) and dinner ($35)
these are things I love to do...being with the kids, entertaining our friends in our apt...going out..but it all costs money.
I am all for saving, but I honestly don't think I know how to NOT do the things I enjoy.
do any of you know of an easier way to find free events or have ideas. I googled some stuff and ended up spending $50 to go to the museum . yes, I am that talented.
any tips/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I hope to be spending weekends in the future at Open Houses, to try to keep my eye on the ball.

Sony WOnder is free, the zoo is free on Wednesdays. Walking around our beautiful city is free! Ice Skating in Bryant Park is free. The main library has awesome stuff (Like the actual winnie the pooh!) and it's free.
Or if you find one thing you like to do with the kids, get a membership. I think the zoo is $125 for 2 adults and 2 children for the year plus you get 4 free parking passes.

Re: Curbing your spending without curbing your enthusiasm
We tried to stop going out to eat...
For me personally...I used to get silk wraps on my nails and I had them taken off...So I am not paying for that every 2 weeks
Also don't get my hair colored as often...try and strech is out. Don't get facials every 6 weeks like I used to
We both bring lunch every single day

Re: Curbing your spending without curbing your enthusiasm
The best way to begin saving is to track your every penny spent for a couple of weeks. We did this for 2 weeks. In one week we were spending nearly $200 on food, not counting food shopping!!! Once you see what you spend, you can really cut back.
