or

I say it the first way and DH says it the second way and it drives me nuts!!

I think its totally a regional thing. He's from upstate and his whole family pronounces it that way!

If I am referring to the action of caramelizing (as in a recipe) I say CAR-MEL

DH: Carmel (he's from Ohio)
He also says: crans for crayons, melk for milk, and don't even get me started on the arguments we've had on the proper pronounciation of words like, "forest, orange, and horrible".
