Those who dont BF or dont plan to.......

Do you have any specific reasons why your not??? I really dont want to BF and when everyone asks me why, I cant come up with a real reason, because I really just DONT KNOW!!! I know that there are benefits to BF, however, I think I'm set on not doing it. I dont even want to try! Does anyone feel the same way I do?

I'm not breastfeeding. My reasons some may say are selfish. One reason is I don't want to ruin my boobs any more then pregnancy itself will. I also want the convience of bottle feeding. It won't matter where I am...I will never have to think twice about feeding. I know there are benefits...and I did go back and forth with my decision but in the end this is whats best for me. I do feel like I will miss out a little though.Chat Icon

I just dont like the whole concept of the baby sucking on my boob! Thats the only reason. The only reason I am considering it is because you can burn up to 600 calories a day! But I am like 90%no, 10% yes.

Re: Those who dont BF or dont plan to.......

i wish i had an answer for you but i'm not entirely sure what i will want to do myself. it's totally a matter of personal preference and that's all those nosy people need to know! honestly, don't feel like you have to have a "reason" or an "excuse" - if someone asks me if i plan on breastfeeding, i would probably be asking them why they are so curious!

I have always said I wouldn't. This is due to the horror stories and frustration I have witnessed from my close friends and sister. My one friend has 2 kids, both had trouble BF but she continued to do it and the stories of her nipple falling off just won't leave my head.

I have decided that I will at least try, but I am not going to force it and if I am uncomfortable or it is not working out then I am going to stop.

I can't believe people are so nosy. I would just tell them it is a very personal decision and leave it at that!

OMG, her nipple fell off? That's scrary!
I just wanted to say that I did it for purely selfish reasons (weight loss). I lost 30 lbs. within 2 weeks. Now I really enjoy it but I think I'm being punished as my dd refuses the bottle so now I'm strictly nursing her.

Re: Those who dont BF or dont plan to.......

There is so much guilt put on moms today for not breastfeeding...it gets quite ridiculous.

Everyone has a plan. Some choose to BF, some not to. Some want to try it out and sometimes it just doesn't happen as in my case. I don't even know the reason why I wanted to in the first place b/c I had no reservations about formula. I think the "losing weight" thing was attractive to me...but i lost the weight anyway, although slower than I would have liked. And mom friends of mine who lost pretty quickly put weight right back on when they weaned.

You will have your baby, and know what it the right decision for you. I think that its great to give it a shot because honestly you NEVER know. It may come naturally and you'll love it. It's happened to people before!

I personally hated it. It hurt me very badly and my son would not latch properly...it was worse than childbirth (the pain) for me, and that made me go straight to formula.

It's funny...we all know there are positive benefits and i'm not arguing that case. However, each child is different. I've encountered many breastfed babies who were sick much more often than my son-and they had lots of alleriges/ear infections. Johnny had none of those. I've also encountered FF babies who were chronically sick, and I've encountered BF babies who were healthy as anything.

Sorry this answer is getting long, but I get sad when I read women who feel this guilt over not breastfeeding...just because society says its best does not mean its best for everyone. A happy mom is a happy baby, remember that! Chat Icon

Since I got pg I decided I wasn't going to BF. For me I just can't see a baby sucking on me. Also my husband is very into my chest and I feel like BFing will change things in his eyes. Yes he might find it even more exciting because I'm feeding our baby, but I'm just not comfortable with it regardless.

I don't plan on breastfeeding. I am very uncomfortable with it. I have no desire to do it and from what I've seen of friends and family it is very difficult. Some people become a slave to their boobs. I figure I've given up my body for 40 weeks and now I want it back!

I feel exactly the same way as you. BF is just not for me. Luckily my DH agrees 100%. Honestly, it's a personal decision and you shouldn't have to provide a reason why you're not going to be doing it.

Re: Those who dont BF or dont plan to.......

Before getting pregnant, I was totally not for BF. I just didnt like the idea at all.

Once I got pregnant and started learning more about the benefits I changed my mind (but still wasnt convinced I wanted to do it). I went to a BF class and learned alot and felt like it was something I wanted to try. I felt as if the benefits to my child outweighed any reason I could come up with to not do it.

Then in the hospital I met with the LC and tried to BF (asl well as bottle feeding) my son was born at almost 10lbs and I didnt feel like I was makign enough to satisfy him, and I wanted to also make sure I was taking the time to make sure I healed as well (from a section) So at night I had the nursery feed him and during the day I woudl nurse, then give him a bottle.

Now almost 3 weeks later, I am still doing that, I nurse for 20-40 minutes at a sitting and then right after give DS a bottle (he currently takes up to 6oz per feeding). I know he isnt getting much and my supply isnt high but I really do like knowing that he is getting Breast milk as well. And at the same time I like knowing that anyone can feed him if need be, I love watching my DH feed his son and see the bonding that occurs.

I like to say that I am formula feeding and supplementing with BF.

I tried it and hated it and will never try it again with our next children. I was pressured into it and it was the worst decision. I should have stuck up for myself.
