The only positive thing about having GD
is that I get to have more ultrasounds. I got to see her at my dr's appt this week and will have them scheduled more frequently now to check her size. Right now she is 3.5 lbs (55th percentile), which is great because it means my sugars haven't been out of control and affecting her. Everything else looks great, but it appears she takes after her daddy...her head is in the 70th percentile (1W2D ahead of her abdomen ). We had the gender checked for the 4th time and she is "250% girl". She let out a great big yawn for us too. It was so cute. It made me remember why I have to suck it up and stick to this awful diet and check my blood sugar 4x day.

Re: The only positive thing about having GD
I have GD too and another good thing about it is that I haven't gained any weight since I've been diagnoised!! I am almost 38 weeks and have gained a total of 21 lbs. My doctor is thrilled with my progress. The extra sonos are great too! I haven't really found the diet to be that bad either.

There's a bright side to everything! My SIL had it and literally gave birth to her son and was back to her weight pre pregnancy!!!!

Re: The only positive thing about having GD
Agreed! My kid's a moose though-79th %ile- but the perinatalogist & my dr both say that's fine, right on target. I've actually lost 4lbs since getting diagnosed- dr's fine w/ that too. My sugars are low & sticking to the diet is not a problem at all!

I have to say it was hard in the beginning ( I also had to take 2 shots of insulin a day and prick) but so much better health wise and fit into my prepreggo jeans right away! and my sugars went back down to normal for me 99 asap!
forgot to add as soon as you give birth you can eat whatever you want and no more checking sugar!

Re: The only positive thing about having GD
man....as a juvenile diabetic, you're all making me wish i was a GD!!! hahahaha.....sounds like you all caught on so fast and are doing so great with it! with my son, he measured in the 97th percentile the whole time....so far, this one is only measuring in the 63rd and i am thrilled...not that it matters, having the c-section anyway.....definitely doing much better this time around.....though the holidays killed me! good luck to you all!!!! keep it up!!!!

Re: The only positive thing about having GD
Thanks everyone for given me more "positives". I just have to keep reminding myself that if I get my sugars under control while following a diet and getting enought calories, I am so much healthier than if I didn't have GD and ate junk all the time! I just started doing the finger sticks on wednesday and my numbers are improving all the time, but for some reason my lunch is always high. I have tried to make adjustments but it's not working. I'll be talking to the nutritionist next week so hopefully she will have more suggestions. Thanks again

I'll be talking to the nutritionist next week so hopefully she will have more suggestions. Thanks again protein protein protein. My numbers were wacky too- more my morning number before breakfast. they told me to make sure I had protein to break down the carb faster and where my body will burn it instead of store it. I'll tell ya it was hard following a certain way to eat. I spent a week in the hospital b/c of GD- they had to monitor my sugar with recieving insulin- ugh not fun, but what was great is that I had a nutritionist come and see me everyday and we spoke about foods, food combinations, I was able to chew her ear off with questions as she lectured me too.
so if you need any help just FM me
