is it too soon to buy a breastpump?
I am not due until March 24th, but the Mdela pump I want is on sale now for $50 less and I have a 15% off coupon. BUT BRU return policy is 90 days.
What is something goes wrong and I cannot breastfeed?
It's a great deal, but should I wait?

Re: is it too soon to buy a breastpump?
i was always told to wait on getting a breast pump until after the birth. i dont think you can return a breast pump after purchase, or after it has been opened---can't remember which one.

If you buy it DO NOT OPEN it. You can't return it after it's been opened.
I hesitated for a while before buying my breast pump as well. I definitely want to BF but I'll feel like I wasted the money if for some reason I can't.

I wouldn't open it. But 90 days is early April, I don't think I'll be pumping until late April/May.
Did you buy one?

Yes and if I have to return it I will. But I'm due in 2 weeks and I only got it a week ago so I'm in a different position.
If you returned it without a receipt they wouldn't know when you purchased it.

Re: is it too soon to buy a breastpump?
I would buy it, sounds like a great deal. But definitely don't open it. If you can't use it and can't return it there, I agree with a previous poster, you could sell online, with probably a better chance of $$ if you don't open the box.
I'm all for a great deal, so I'd do it!

You can return at BRU without a receipt?

I don't have receipts for half the stuff I've returned from my shower! But there is a limit according to my SIL. After a certain amount of returns (as in trips to BRU) they won't take anything back from you for a bit - so when you're returning do as much as you can at one time. They haven't turned me away yet but if/when they do, I'll send DH in to do the returns.
But if you had to return the pump, they might give you a hard time regardless because of the nature of the item... so maybe you should wait a little longer.

Re: is it too soon to buy a breastpump?
Yeah, I think I'll wait a little longer and keep my eye on it.
Or maybe I'll buy it and watch to see if it stays on clearance and return it and rebuy again, so I have longer to return it.
Maybe a sales rep can help me too. they are really friendly at my BRU.

I would wait. You don't know how BF will work out, etc. I was going to rent first then I ended up buying one but only when I was 4.5 weeks PP.

I was told to wait. I will rent a hospital grade pump and see if this whole BF thing works out for me.
I have 2 friends who both bought Medela PIS and who gave up after a month and now they are out $250 each!

Re: is it too soon to buy a breastpump?
The PIS Original is discontinued - that is why it is on sale. Medela has decided to go only with the PIS advanced. For that reason I wouldn't buy it. I think BRU would give you a hard time returning it even if completely sealed (which is required).

Best way to do it.
Even though you plan do BF (like I did)..things dont always work out. you dont want to be stuck with a pump. They dont easily take those as returns.

Re: is it too soon to buy a breastpump?
i wouldn't. like other posters have said, i would make sure it's going okay before you spend the money.
also, FYI, i heard a rumor at babies r us the other day that in the next few months the medela pump in style advance is going to be made in a lighter and cheaper version! this came from one of the salespeople, so i assume it's true...
