When someone compliments your outfit...
Do you feel obligated to say something nice about what they have on?
What if there isn't anything "special" about their outfit? Do you lie?

Nope. I'll say something like, "Thanks! I was so excited when I found these shoes/pants/top because I've been looking for something like this for a while". Or how it's comfy or well made or something.....
I don't like to lie, even to flatter someone. It's just fake to me.

No - when someone gives you a compliment of any kind, you say "Thank You" .......no need to return it or make something up -
Unless of course, you have a genuine compliment to return it with -

I don't. I'll say thank you, and really mean it, but I think it sounds phony when you return a compliment with a compliment, because if I really thought something fabulous about someone's hair or outfit or whatever, I would have told them.

No. The only thing I feel obligated to say is "Thank you."
In fact, even if I like something they are wearing, I'm hesitant to say so right after they complimented me because I always feel like it doesn't sound genuine at that point—like I'm only saying it because of their compliment.

I normally just say thanks
but if it's a friend I normally add where I got it (like Cent 21 - a good deal type thing to share in my excitment) or if it's old- I tell them

Yeah..I usually say something along those lines. Or if I got a good deal on it I'll say where I got it.
