So i went to the store and bought prenatal vitamins today. My doctors appoitnment is friday they said they wont be doing an Ultra sound that day though? is that normal? Well i have to say these prenatal vitamins definately hard to swallow. I tried breaking them in half and i still wanted to throw up is this normal. anyone have any tricks of the trade.

My prenatals made me very sick. I would take them at night and that helped a lot. As for the ultrasound how far along are you? Some doctors wait until 7 or 8 weeks to do one.

Re: Prenatal Vitamins... anyone else have a problem
I had my first dr's appt at 7 weeks and he did an us then. In the beginning, the nasty prescription prenatal vitamins did make me gag. They are so big and pink. I try to take them with a lot of water or oj and typically eat a couple crackers before or afterward to avoid nausea. Hope this helps.

I would vomit if I took them in the morning so I started taking them before bed.

I take prescription Primacare... I've had NO problems with it at all. I took GNC's prenatal vitamins while we were TTC and before I knew I was PG, had no problems with that one either.

Try some different kinds. Your doc might be able to give you samples of a few. I asked for a prescription on the first one that didn't make me queazy...

Re: Prenatal Vitamins... anyone else have a problem
I had to switch my vitamins in the beginning. The first ones I had I couldn't get down without gagging. Now I take Prima Care...they are like gel capsule and go down without a problem. I would def try them.
I had my first doctors appointment at 6 weeks 2 days and my first sono at 7 weeks 5 days.

Re: Prenatal Vitamins... anyone else have a problem
I tried 3 different kinds and I always threw them up within 45 minutes whether I took them in the morning, in the evening, at night before bed, if I took them with crackers, with milk, with juice, with fruit, with bread. It was awful - then I talked with my Dr. and he made me feel so much better by telling me to take children's chewables and be sure to eat properly.
This seems to be working for me...I tke Flintstone's vitamins everyday along with a Calcium supplement and to date (32 wks), I've been testing in-range for all my blood tests - no anemia, no lack of calcium, etc.
If you're getting sick from the pre-natal vitamins, there's no point in taking them because you're pulling out more nutrients than you're putting in - JMHO....
