Holy $$$

My kitty Max is in the CCU at the plainview animal hospital.

I almost fell over about the money.

I just want my baby home. Poor kitty.

How much is too much money to spend on your cat? i don't have a dollar amount in my head, but I'm in sticker shock. DH is worse.

I'm sure that it can run into thousands..it's already at $1700!

Re: Holy $$$

when our dog had his first seizure he was almost dead when my parents brought him to the emergency. They wanted 2000.00 up front. We paid it. THen they wanted another 500.00 after they brought him back to life to do tests,we paid it. THen there was more money involved for something to do with his pancreas or liver, we spent about 4000.00. But they saved our dog. Then when he came home we brought him to the regular vet. That was the first time he had a diabetic seizure. But he lived another 2 happy years after that.

We had another dog with breast cancer when i was a kid. Cost alot of money. BUt we had her surgeries and she was fine. I dunno i would pay whatever it takes as long as my pet is not suffering in the aftermath.

I am not sure what I would spend on my pets. If I was only going to prolong their life for a short time I would maybe put them to sleep. I had a boxer that had a blood tumor I did not know about and she slowly hemoregged(?) to death. It was all of 5 minutes they worked on her and they still gave me a bill for 700 dollars!
I sure hope your kitty feels better!

sorry to hear this. DH and I had a discussion about it and I would just about empty the bank account to save him but he was trying to be realistic.

He's sick but not dying. I have a feeling that he will get these tests done and get new meds and in time be ok. It may just cost a lot.

Needless to say, the new xbox, rock band and guitar hero are staying in the sealed boxes until this drama is over. More important to spend it on the kitty right now.

He's only going to be 12 and such a loving animal. He's my son. He's brother is lonley for him too.

If it will make you feel better they are the best!

I am with a rescue organization and I only use them for life and death. If they cannot save the animal I go to University of PA.

What is wrong with your cat?

Re: Holy $$$

I have been reading the posts about how much vet bills have been, please if anyone should face such again do not put your pet to sleep over the money, contact me, there are many vets that would less. Humane Society in Manhattan has excellent vet and about 1/3 the cost of regular vets.

Re: Holy $$$

I would maybe ask your vet if they have a payment plan option, a lot of vets do.

Re: Holy $$$

when Sparky went to the vet with his illness it cost us over $1700 and he was dead in days. Money never bothered me. Seeing his dead corpse to say goodbye was shattering.

I used to spend $70 a month for insulin and $40 for insulin needles on my diabetic cat but now its $170 every five months and $30 every month and a half for needles. Still glucose testing is over $70 each visit. Plus the special diet food $70.

So...
2006 was around $2000 a year
2007 was around $1100 a year

Doesnt include the multiple visits to get his insulin right (was going to the vet ever month for 6mths) Doesnt include normal vet visit and shots

Doesnt include the two kittens (we got after Sparky died)

When Pyxie swallowed a penny & have to have it removed via a scope, it cost us $2200. We asked the vet for a payment plan & they were more than accommodating.

Re: Holy $$$

Most we've spent on Peanut in one visit is when she ate diabetic chocolate and had to stay over at the emergency vet - $650.00.

Re: Holy $$$

My mom's cat had a condition that caused crystals to form in her bladder. She had 2 operations at about $1500 each... and that was about 7 years ago.

I'm dreading the costs that will come with my cat as he gets older.

I feel that vets are completely overpriced. You should be able to help your pet without having to skip a mortgage payment.

Re: Holy $$$

Our dog was there for eating rabbit feces - Cost us $1200. Now we have VPI insurance. Tiny was in the westbury animal ER last friday and the bill was $420, but they couldnt figure out what was wrong with him. He ate something that affected him neuroligically. He is fine now. We put in a claim to the insurance company so hopefully we will get reimbursed.

I hope your kitty is better soon
