Does anyone know how to write one. How many pages it is supposed to be. What goes in it?

Re: Curriculum VItae

A CV or resume should be one page for every 10 years of work experience, unless you have a lot of publications or speaches and then it should accomodate what you have had published/presented.

A CV differs from a resume. It's more detailed.

From About.com - they also have writing samples.
Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV)?

What's the difference between a resume and a CV? The primary differences are the length, the content and the purpose. A resume is a one or two page summary of your skills, experience and education. A goal of resume writing is to be brief and concise since, at best, the resume reader will spend a minute or so reviewing your qualifications.
A Curriculum Vitae, commonly referred to as CV, is a longer (two or more pages), more detailed synopsis. It includes a summary of your educational and academic backgrounds as well as teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, awards, honors, affiliations and other details.

Re: Curriculum VItae

are you currently working? i am surprised that you not familiar w/ what a resume is. most if not all jobs require applicants to submit a resume.

anyway, search online for resume writing tips or buy a resume handbook. they are fairly easy to write but time consuming. my best advice is to make sure that there are no spelling or punctuation errors and the format is consistent. microsoft word has several resume template that you can use as a guidline.

A resume is not the same as a CV. I am working now and I am applying for an adjunct lecturer position. I have written many resumes for myself, friends and students, but this will be the first curriculum vitae that I have to write.

I work in education and have to submit CV. Mine differs from my resumes in that I include all the research I've had published, academic conferences I have spoken at, who I have done research with, etc. That's probably what they are looking for, but before I started my doctorate I wouldn't have had that much to include in one. My resume is one page with work experience and a small education section, but my CV has sections entitled PUBLISHED RESEARCH with a summary of the journal articles, who I worked with, etc., and CONFERENCE PROPOSALS AND PRESENTATIONS, detailing what I presented and what the conference was about. Yours may resemble more of a resume if you have a master's and haven't done as much research work or presenting, which is fine because often the adjunct positions only require a master's. It just depends who else is applying.

i am a full time prof and when i applied for the position, i submitted a resume as required on the job posting. my resume is pretty lengthy (2 pages) and does include a section on published work and organization involvment. i always thought CV was an old school term for resume.

where are you applying? i know suffolk community, nassau community and farmingdale require a cover letter, resume and 3 references. stonybrook and the private colleges might be different though.

ETA: i just checked the webistes of stonybrook and dowling and they require a 'vita'. i was planning on updatding my resume over inter-session and now i will be sure that it meets the CV guidlines.

thanks for posting this question.

Re: Curriculum Vitae

When doing research for my job, I have noticed that some professors have their CVs on line, so you may be able to find examples.
