HDTV question?

Anyone here an HDTV expert- we are looking to buy one with the $ we got from grandparents as xmas gifts.

We are looking at at 37 or 42 in probably either a vizio or an olevia, which are more in our price range than the bigger brand names. Are these still good TVs?

Also, they are 720p which is hear is ok in that size. DH does watch a lot of sprots, but our living room is smallish, so you aren't that far away. SHould we spend more for the 1080 or is the 720 ok.

Thanks for the help!

Re: HDTV question?

My friend has a 37" Vizio and 42" Sony and she said she can't tell the difference. Her DH, of course, can tell the difference, but he said the Vizio as the second TV is good.

We are also thinking of getting a 37" Vizio, but I'm not positive yet.

Were trying to keep it under 1k. My DH is in grad school, so money is fairly tight.

ETA- We currently have a really really old (at least 10 years old) 25 inch TV, so anything will look better

I have read in many different reviews that the Sharp is not worth the money. Is that true?

Most stores now days have price matching. So you don't have to shop at a PCR store.... Costco has a nice line of TV's like Panasonic.

Much better now days. Like the D64 line but I like the new Samsung and Sony line the most....

In 2 weeks theirs going to be the Electronics show in Las Vegas, after the show they tend to announce the new line for 2008... So I would wait, that's if you can....

Holy crap...that is like 700 bucks less than what I paid last November!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We have two sharps...one from '04 when they first came out and the one we got last year...DH swears by them...and it has anti-glare, so there is never a sun issue...

Re: HDTV question?

We have a Sony Bravia that DH LOVES! My mother wasn't about to pay that price so she bought the 37" Olivia and likes it. DH watches TV at her house and finds the picture to be good, no complaints from him. He does feel it takes a little while to start up and it takes longer to switch channels. My cousins also bought the 42" Olivia and likes it too.
