Yay for the HP computer. I however am not a fan of the HP printers. My stopped working after only 2 years, and we did not even use it than much. We bought another one and when i printed pictures on it the quality was not that great. I returned it for a cannon printer and we are very happy with it. As far as the Computer, Iwe are VERY happy with the computer itself.

Re: HP computers

On the fence. Our company switched from Dell to HP a few months ago. We are starting to get them in on a regular basis. Many of them are having issues. I haven't noticed a distinct pattern yet, but my faith in them has dropped a little recently. I'm not *not* recommending them, but I'm just keeping my eye out for trends at work for a while before I give opinions about them. On the other hand, I'm not thrilled with Dell, either.... Chat Icon

I do love HP printers, though. I've been using them for decades, and I've never had a problem. Inkjets, photo printers, lasers, color lasers, large plotters, etc. Every range of device they sell, I've used.

Re: HP computers

Hard to say, I try not to judge a whole brand at once.

I will say that I had a Compaq years ago (who is merged with HP now) and they had this habit of engineering their computer parts so you were forced to go back to them for replacements and upgrades.

I don't know if they still do it but they used to go so far to design the inside of their cases to fit a non-standard size hard drive. Instead of being about 6 inches long and 1 inch high, it was 8 inches long and 1/2 inch high. You just could not fit a regular hard drive in it's place. The name of my hard drive was fitting - "Big Foot".

Then there were screws that no conventional screwdriver could take out. They looked like half-moons instead of flathead or philips.

As far as Dell goes, I repaired them for many years and I will say that there were quite a few part problems with certain models. Video cards, power supplies, system boards.

I'd still choose Dell over other brands because they are the devil I know. And their online documentation is crazy good and easier to navigate than say HP. Or the non-existant Sony support.

But their home support is in India which I know people don't like. I called them once for my Dad's laptop and although I knew just what to do before I got on the line, I was still on the phone for an hour with them. The accent of the guy I spoke with was a little hard to navigate but not impossible.

However, the tech came out and replaced the system board in his laptop (a real big PITA to take the whole damn thing apart) and my father was extremely impressed with him.

Sorry this is so long, just wanted to share my experiences. There is no clear good guy and bad guy, is the point I'm getting at. Everyone has their favorites, mine is Dell.

Re: HP computers

Green makes a good point...
At the end of this converstation, a computer is a computer. Being i'm into computers, i never had to call for support so i really can't comment on that. With proper care of the PC, you don't have to call either. People tend not to take care of there machine (like a car getting an oil change every xxxx mile)

All the major companys you see in the store are great machines with almost the same exact parts. Depending on you needs, you can buy an entry level PC as the advace stuff you see is for game, graphic designers and so on that need more power.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.
