I know this sounds really cheap....

...but I had to ask.

Some where along the way we wound up exchanging gifts with our neighbors...we have always tried to ease out of the commitment every year but then they show up with gifts for us. I always have extra gifts so I have fortunately not been empty handed..(its one extended family that lives on our block in 3 separate houses)..its nice...just not necessary. (we do a separate kid gift exchange) This year we bought gifts for them but we havent seen them all day...DH and I are kind of hoping that we have nipped this in the bud. BUT we feel really really cheap not giving them the gifts we bought them...BUT we are afraid to give them to them b/c then it would start the whole unnecessary thing all over again...Any ideas or input on the subject?

Why not just bake them cookies? Its cheap, put it in a Xmas tin, and boom - your done...

and, if they don't like it, they will not bother buying you a gift next year, or also give you something edible, and then you both have downgraded to cheaper, easier gifts...

Or, lots of DH's cousins just gave us nuts in Xmas containers....

your situation sounds like my parents...their neighbors always bring them over a box of whitmans chocolates, she ahs been doing it forever..my mom always has somethign on hand to give them, all wrapped up and rarin to go, but if the neighbors do not come by, we do not go over there...
