spinoff to e-bay discussions--what I like least about e-bay
I don't buy from the "Churn 'em and burn 'em" sellers who deal in bulk and have mediocre feedback. Many of these sellers are not really individuals but are retailers who have e-bay accounts. I am not against retailers using e-bay but I look to e-bay for mom and pop type sellers or retailers whose businesses are not so huge that their number of negative ratings is in the thousands!!!!!!! I have always had the most trouble with the sellers who have 50 of the same items listed.

I agree 100%. I only buy from those who have at least a 99% rating AND minimal, if any negative. I value feedback 100%. Now, I actually have the worst problem with buyers with zero or under 5 ratings. They can be risky, but usually not

I also look at the percentage and the total number of negatives. Some of these huge companies have so many negative ratings but the percentage is not very big because they have done so many sales!! I still have trouble with those companies. They seem slower to ship and they don't answer e-mails.

also, a good chunk, are from Asia. Last Christmas I ordered a jersey for my DH on 11/1. Long story short, it was from Korea, never ever shipped out, and never got my item. I waited until 12/20. They did issue a credit. I also normally only buy within the US because of that. But I sell to anywhere.

I hope that e-bay does not become too big for itself, KWIM?

On the one hand, you could send a reminder e-mail after the transaction and advise them that you will provide them with positive feedback upon receiving feedback from them. You are allowed to do that, right? Then people who want more feedback will be more inclined to give you feedback.
On the other hand, as soon as you leave feedback, there are people who will read it and then respond by leaving you feedback.

I also read comments from sellers who respond to negative feedback. If they are consistently nasty to their buyers (especially if there seemed to be a legitimate complaint), I won't buy from them.
